A Revitalized Smile
Porcelain Veneers Decatur
Crooked, cracked, and discolored teeth are a cause of concern for millions of dental patients who may be ashamed of the appearance of their smiles. Porcelain veneers are one cosmetic dentistry option for those patients who want a long-term, uniform solution to one or more of these problems.
By their very nature, porcelain veneers mask any aesthetic imperfections in the natural teeth. Affixed to the front surfaces of a patient’s teeth, these thin, porcelain shields mimic the look of natural enamel and create a uniformly straight, even, white smile.
Candidates for Porcelain Veneers
At Georgia Dental Center, Dr. Thomas J. Price and our practiced team carefully evaluate each of our patients’ candidacy for any procedure. Restoring and retaining the health of natural teeth is of utmost importance in every procedure, and porcelain veneers are no exception.
Patients who are great candidates for porcelain veneers include those who:
- Have discolored, slightly cracked or chipped teeth.
- Have enough healthy, natural tooth for each veneer to bond to.
- Are able to maintain a regular dental hygiene regimen. Veneers require the same dental care as natural teeth, including daily brushing, flossing, and rinsing.
- Are looking for a long-term solution to fix the façade of their smiles.
- Wish to correct the appearance of misaligned teeth but without the often lengthy time commitment required of braces or other straightening procedures.
In addition to covering these cosmetic problems, porcelain veneers are durable and resistant to staining and chipping. Many porcelain veneer candidates want a cosmetic treatment that is long-lasting and durable. If you are considering veneers, contact our office for more information on the procedure and your candidacy.
The Porcelain Veneers Procedure
At Georgia Dental Center, once we have determined that a patient is a suitable candidate for porcelain veneers, we begin the process of crafting and applying the veneers.
We recommend that some patients undergo teeth whitening before their veneers are applied. We offer in-office and take-home whitening kits that take from one visit to a few weeks to achieve desired results. Whitening the natural teeth before veneer application can create a whiter end result. Some patients may also choose to undergo laser gum reshaping as an addition to porcelain veneers, which removes excess or uneven gum tissue from the teeth.
To create individualized veneers for each patient, we first take molds of the teeth, from which wax-up study models are made at our dental laboratory. Once these are completed, Dr. Price will make sure that each wax-up fits appropriately for each respective tooth, creating a natural look. If the wax-ups need adjustment, Dr. Price alerts the dental laboratory to create new ones, working in close communication with them to ensure that each veneer will fit soundly and beautifully within the smile. If they are a proper fit for a patient, his or her veneers will be constructed in our laboratory. During this visit, a patient’s teeth are prepped for their upcoming veneers, and some natural enamel will be removed so the veneers will fit easily and bond steadfastly in place. Dr. Price may give patients temporary veneers until their permanent ones can be affixed.
The application of porcelain veneers is relatively simple. Dr. Price again checks the proper fit and look of each veneer to its respective tooth. Assuming a proper fit, the veneer is then bonded in place using a strong adhesive. Once they are applied, veneers have immediate and full functionality. Dr. Price may also request a follow-up visit to ensure veneers are working properly and are not interfering with the bite. Subsequent regular visits to Georgia Dental Center in Decatur will help to ensure that each veneer remains strong, looks beautiful, and lasts for many years.
We know the confidence that porcelain veneers can inspire, and we are happy to examine each patient’s candidacy for this often life-changing procedure. To schedule an appointment at our practice, please contact us today.
